Decked OUT

As people look to unplug and unwind outside, outdoor living areas top the list of many home improvement projects. A new deck can be a place to relax or entertain, prepare and share a family meal or simply an extension of the home.

“A house’s living space extends beyond the four walls of the home,” said Chris Camfferman, managing director of marketing at manufacturer Deckorators. With the right planning and project, outdoor space can be “like a room of the home,” he said.

Outdoor living trends at home often follow commercial and travel trends, Camfferman said. For example, a homeowner might want to recreate the fire and lighting elements of a favorite restaurant’s outdoor seating area or poolside lounge area from the fantastic resort visited on vacation.

“What kind of deck is up to the imagination of the homeowner,” Camfferman said.
